LLL Resume

With a combination of hard driving, traditional bluegrass, family harmonies, and an uncommon ‘grit’ derived
from growing up on an Eastern New Mexico cattle ranch, the Miller family has been traveling the country as
the Triple L Band, entertaining audiences since their debut performance at a local amateur country music
show in 2000. That was the start of a really exciting career as a bluegrass band performing at bluegrass
festivals, churches and many other venues . The band was named, to represent Lance, Landon and Levi
Miller, sons of Len and Amy Miller.
Lance , age 19, provides a solid, powerful acoustic guitar for the band. His versatile flatpicking abilities give
the band the capability to do a greater variety of music. Lance has a great bluegrass voice that easily blends
all the other vocals together for a great lead and harmony sound. He is accomplished on all bluegrass
instruments and has hired out to play with other bands on mandolin, bass, and banjo, but his passion is for the
guitar . Lance won his first guitar in 2004 at the Texas best flatpicking contest in Brownwood Texas. He is
currently pursuing a degree in electronic engineering at Eastern New Mexico University. His electronic
interests have given him the job of sound technician for the band.
Landon, age 17, is the banjo man of the Triple L. With a perfectionist attitude and an extraordinary ability
to play anything he hears on the banjo, his finesse in playing adds a tasteful motion to the hard driving sound
of the Triple L‘s upbeat tempo, and adds a melodic background to the slower songs. He also has hired out to
several other bands for that ‘banjo spot’. Landon was one of the top 5 finalists at Winfield, Kansas, at his first
try at the National Banjo Picking Championship in 2006. In addition to his banjo prowess, his skillful baritone
voice is a major component of the triple L’s vocals.
Levi is our 15 year old mandolin player. He got his start playing on stage, instead of in the practice room at
the early age of seven. Having become an accomplished mandolin player, his mandolin playing is always
changing, and he regularly surprises us with a spur of the moment, improvised instrumental break. He has a
very strong voice and does a great job singing both lead and tenor vocals on almost every song the band
does. This, along with his uncanny audience repoir make him a core part of the Triple ‘L’ sound. He is the
2nd place winner of the Wild West bluegrass park mandolin contest of June 2006.
Amy, who does the promotional and booking work for the band , also provides a steady rhythm for the band
as their stand up bass player. Her heartfelt song choice, and family harmony blend, add a variety to the
performing sound of the band. She is the boys’ greatest fan! Her steadfast belief in their abilities and continual
encouragement, and love for travel have been major factors in the band’s success to this point.
Len started playing the same time the boys did. He first played banjo, then guitar……As the boys grew up
and picked the instruments they wanted to play he shifted around accordingly, settling on the dobro. He has
an aggressive approach to his dobro playing that fits perfectly with the up tempo style the band plays. He has
a strong easy to listen to voice and a love for the music that keeps him singing. He sings lead or harmony
that completes the family blend. He is the backbone of the band keeping all the small mechanical details
intact to get us down the road.
Without the advantage of having other bluegrass musicians living close by to learn from , the Triple L had to
teach themselves how to play. Through this process they have developed a sound that is unique to them.
One that incorporates traditional, mostly up tempo, driving bluegrass with the emotions derived from their
experiences of living a home schooled, western lifestyle. Since it’s beginning, the band has advanced greatly
in performance and personal accomplishments. Their continuing climb through the ranks of bluegrass, and the
growing respect of their peers speak highly for their talent, love for the music, and willingness to work hard to
achieve their goals. They have won many awards in the short time they have been playing, both individually
and as a band. Among these, a 2005 Youth in Bluegrass Championship from Silver Dollar City in Branson,
MO. They placed 12th in the final round of the SPBGMA band contest competition in Nashville, TN, Feb.
2007, and just finished placing 2nd in the 33rd annual GMA ‘Music in the Rockies‘ band contest.
